Mother Loss Support Group

“We are shaped as much by those who leave us as we are by those who stay”

Have you recently lost your mother? Has it been many years or decades since you lost your mother? Are you struggling with unresolved emotions or simply have a strong longing for your mother? Would you like to connect with others who also lost their mother?

There are no words to describe what it means to lose your mother at any stage in life. One predominant theme that comes up in our grief circle is that mothers provide unconditional love. A love never really found again. When she is gone, it profoundly affects how we look at and navigate the world after her death. Finding shelter and comfort with others who have faced the same loss can be important and powerful. It also provides a space to reflect and find meaning in our lives moving forward.

If you resonate with any of this then this group may be for you. We meet once a month virtually for 90 minutes. There may be opportunities for occasional in person meetings from time to time. Group members must be residents of Florida. For those under the age of 18, consent by a parent is needed.

Dr. Olivia’s Objective:

 - To provide and create a safe and supportive space for those who share the same type of loss.

- To allow the process of grief and loss to happen under the guidance of a professional therapist.

-  To share educational information about death, loss and grief in a family system.

-  To unite and build a community that fosters shared understanding through life cycle events.

STRUCTURE OF THE GROUP

Dr.Olivia will first introduce and present a topic related to mother loss, grief, and death in the family. A discussion will follow about group members thinking and reflections related to the topic.

Group members who are interested can present something they are currently facing in their lives. Each group meeting will allow time for a few members to speak and share. Reflections and questions by listening group members will be directed to Dr.Olivia.

This support group is led by a Ph.D. Marriage and Family Therapist who is trained to think of the family as an emotional unit. Conversations and discussions will often include the interdependence of the family one is in, and how the family readjusts and adapts after a significant death. Group members are encouraged to be curious about the role they occupy in their own family, and how to manage self in the process.
